Russia produces first batch of COVID-19 vaccine for animals

MOSCOW, Apr 30 (PRIME) -- The Federal Center for Animal Health (All-Russian Research Institute for Animal Health, ARRIAH) has produced the first 17,000 dose batch of the Carnivac-Cov COVID-19 vaccine for animals, Yuliya Melano, advisor to director of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight, told reporters on Friday.

“The service’s subordinate organization Federal Center for Animal Health has produced the first batch of the Carnivac-Cov vaccine for prophylaxis of the new coronavirus infection in animals in the amount of 17,000 doses,” she said.

The first batch has already been contracted, and the center will deliver the vaccine to the Russian cities and regions very soon. The current production capacity of the vaccine stands at 3 million doses per month, but if demand is high, the center may expand the capacity to 5 million doses, she said.

ARRIAH is also preparing documents for registration of the Carnivac-Cov vaccine in foreign countries, including in the E.U. Interest to the vaccine was expressed by Germany, Greece, Poland, Austria, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Lebanon, Iran, and Argentina, she said.
